Healthy Snacks

My sister Kristen just graduated as a nutritionist. She keeps her family eating healthy with easy solutions. One solution is preparing “snack bags”. She also keeps fresh and healthy options in a bin towards the front of the refrigerator. She changes out the snacks to keep it fun. Everyday her family has healthy options to choose from. Here is a look into our snack station and snack bags. We are trying really hard to start 2014 with healthy habits. If you want to read more on healthy eating habits click on  CLEAN EATING. It really helps.

Grab-and-Go Snack Bags

  • Jar of peanut butter (preferably the natural kind, for dipping)
  • String cheese
  • Yogurt
  • Grapes
  • Assorted baby-cut carrots, celery sticks, pepper slices—in plastic bags
  • Orange slices
  • Lunch-meat roll-ups (like turkey-and-Swiss or ham-and-Cheddar)
  • Tub of hummus (for dipping)
  • Cucumbers
  • Avocados and cherry tomatoes
When I buy hummus I buy the original flavor for my kids. They dip everything in it. Their veggies, chips and tortillas. You can make sandwich wraps and use the hummus as a condiment instead of mayonnaise. It’s a great way to get a little extra protein. I buy jalapeno hummus for me. Trader Joes and Whole foods have the best jalapeno hummus.
My favorite snack is an avocado with homemade pico de’ gallo. or cherry tomatoes. It’s an easy snack to grab. I prep and make the pico’ on Sunday so I have enough to last the entire week. It’s easy and so healthy!

Here’s to a healthy 2014!

xx,

Jenna
