One of the most inspiring singers and songwriters of our day is Mindy Gledhill. I was introduced to her music by my friends David Archuleta and Kendra Lowe. Kendra also happens to have co-written several songs with Mindy. Mindy is the real deal. A true talent. Also a mother of three who I look up to so much for finding a great balance between motherhood and following her dreams. L&L has a sneak peek from the photoshoot for Mindy’s new album Pocketful of Poetry which comes out September 10!
Mindy Gledhill’s newest album was produced in Nashville, TN by Cason Cooley (Katie Herzig, Matthew Perryman Jones, Sixpence None the Richer). Her last studio album was produced in L.A. by acclaimed producer Stuart Brawley (Emmy Rossum, Lenka, Jason Reeves, Michael Jackson) and featured her single “Anchor” which appeared on FOX’s Bones and ABC’s Jane By Design, and has more than 1 million YouTube views. The album attracted Korean label FarGo Music which released it there landing seven tracks on the GAON charts. Her music has also been well-received in Japan where she recently returned from a sold-out tour and is soon to be released in Taiwan. Gledhill’s pure and nostalgic vocals attracted GRAMMY nominated DJ KASKADE who has featured her on four tracks including the first single on his GRAMMY nominated album Fire & Ice (2012) which reached #17 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Billboard Dance Airplay. Gledhill’s music also features on a 2012 Fruit of the Loom commercial which aired during the Summer Olympics.
We were able to have an exclusive interview with Mindy and here is what she had to say:
L&L: What is your favorite thing about motherhood?
Mindy: I wasn’t prepared for how emotional I would be when watching my children in school plays, recitals, sports games, etc. It’s the most overwhelming feeling to see them progress and succeed. I blubber every time.
L&L: What inspires you when writing your music?
Mindy: This may sound like a cop-out, but my inspiration often comes from the art of others. I love The Cardigans and The Sundays. A lot of the music on this new album was inspired by film composers, Jon Brion and Mark Mothersbaugh. Picasso once said,“Good artists copy. Great artists steal.”
L&L: What is something that people would not know about you?
Mindy: I lived in Spain for three years in high school and I speak fluent Spanish.
L&L: We love your style. Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
Mindy: My shopping Meccas…
Decades (Vintage clothing in Salt Lake City)
Hubba Hubba (Vintage clothing in Burbank, CA)
Swift Vintage (Burbank, CA)
