Real mom: Maggie Holmes + giveaway
Bright, creative, killer smile, mother, supportive, successful, friend, entrepreneur, beautiful, modern are all words I would use to describe Maggie Holmes. This mother of FIVE does it all! She is real and good and honest. All qualities we at L&L respect and admire. I’m excited to introduce you into the life of this weeks real mom and give you the opportunity to win a selection of her creative talents!
Name: Maggie Holmes
Husband: Brian – just graduated from Law School!
Children: 5 (Tyler, Matthew, Nathan, Emily Jane and Elizabeth Kate)
Job: Photographer, Workshop Leader, Scrapbook Designer and I also now have my own line of scrapbooking products! In addition I have a passion for decorating and do a bit of that on the side as well. I guess you could say that I am a creative person at heart and it tends to find its way into everything I do, making it all part of a lifestyle instead of a “job”.
Tell us about your art. How you got started, why? I have been scrapbooking and taking pictures for as long as I can remember and then it grew into more of a meaningful passion of mine when we started having our children. Over the years it has all naturally evolved into the businesses that it now entails. I truly feel blessed that what I love and what I do for work are one in the same!
First thing you do in the morning: Snuggle in bed for “5 more minutes” with whichever child happens to come in that morning.
Describe your personal style: It’s hard to pin down a certain word to describe my style because I tend to just buy what I like and make it work! It’s definitely eclectic and all about the mix of things and contrasting different styles together in a way that feels like it wasn’t bought off the showroom floor. I love color contrasted with lots of white to keep it feeling bright and fresh. I also love vintage things mixed in with traditional pieces and things that have nice clean lines. I will never buy a “set” of things like a matching table and chairs or a bedspread with all the pillows that are made to match. Instead I will buy a table that I love and then combine it with a mixture of different chairs from different styles and time periods and then put it all together in a way that makes me happy!
How you stay fit: I stay busy chasing all of my kiddos around and keeping up with their busy lives and I eat a pretty strict diet. I have been gluten and dairy free for 13 years now and also try to limit yeast and sugar as well. I am one that has been diagnosed with many different autoimmune diseases over the years and am a big believer in diet as a way to treat those problems. The way I feel and function on a daily basis is directly related to the foods that I put in my body.
Number one beauty item: Stila Lip Stain in Cherry Crush. Lips are the finishing touch for me and I love that I don’t have to reapply throughout the day!
Favorite healthy snack: Roasted/Salted Almonds and raisins mixed together in a cute bowl of course!
Guilty pleasure: Hot Tamales!
Children’s item you can’t live without: Aden & Anais bamboo swaddle blankets. They are so soft and Lizzy Kate cannot live without them! We have them all over the house and in the car!
Tip or trick your mom taught you that have applied to yourself: My mom was always moving her decorations around and or rotating things in and out of storage which is something I also now love to do. It can do wonders to make you feel like you have a brand new room without actually having to go out and buy new things!
Favorite tradition: Spending time in Utah with our kids in the Summer. We are both from Utah and I don’t love the snow so I am happy to now live in Arizona, but I do love to go back in the Summer. I love the simple things like seeing all of our family up there and laying in the soft green grass!
How you balance life: Lucky for me my creative mind works at a fast pace so when I need to make a project or do something for work I can get it done quickly. This allows me to do it while the kids are at school and the baby is napping. Everything I do is a bit sporadic in nature meaning that I don’t ever have to spend a certain number of hours “working”, so I can work on things in little chunks of time when I am free and not busy with my family. I am also guilty of letting the laundry pile up a little in exchange for more time snuggling or playing with my kids. I figure that there will come a time when my house will be perfectly clean all hours of the day, but that time is not now because I don’t want to miss out on being with my kiddos while they are still little.
