a green drink a day keeps the doctor away!

  Let’s talk about The Juice.
Now I’m not one of those moms who doesn’t allow her kids to have sugar, because simply I can NOT go with out it myself. My love for chocolate runs far too deep. But I am a mom who’s committed myself to waking up a little earlier to cut up veggies for my growing girls.
A few years ago our neighbor came down with stage 4 cancer.  A friend gave him a juicer with a book called “Crazy Sexy Diet”.  It talks about several things to keep bodies healthy and also fight against cancer cells. One of the things suggested was juicing these seven ingredients daily!
1 large cucumber
1 large piece of broccoli (the stalk has the most nutrients)
2 celery stalks
3-4 lettuce leaves
3-4 pieces of kale
1 small piece of ginger root
2 pears
Does it taste good? That’s up for discussion. It’s not terrible and we’ve nicknamed it  “shrek juice” to make it a little more kid friendly…  They think it’s funny after drinking it to show each other their “green mustaches”
My family is proof that drinking this green juice can increase your all around health & immune system. Between the 5 of us we’ve had years of colds that turn into sinus and ear infections that require doctors visits & antibiotics. Lot’s of money out of my pocket!! Since we started juicing almost two years ago, miraculously not one of us has been on antibiotics….
AND TODAY MY NEIGHBOR IS CANCER FREE!

FACTS
approx. 10 min. out of my day
nutrients most effective in the first 20 mins. of making your juice
veggies cost me approx. $20 a week
scrapes and bruises heal quicker
more energy
(just kidding, that would be my diet coke kicking in an hour later)
MOST IMPORTANT
U are building a healthier mind and body!!

A great juicer to start with (think christmas present) is the Jack Lalanne and can be found at Macy’s.com with a 10% off friends and family code FRIEND right now!
In the famous words of Jack Lalanne:
“I don’t care how old I live; I just want to be LIVING while I am living!”

  1. Got fed up with my 20 month old being sick AGAIN this morning and ordered the juicer. Thanks for the info! He won’t eat any veggies and barely any fruit, so here’s to hoping this will work. 🙂

    • The recipe makes about 28-30 fl ounces. My husband and I drink between 8-9 ounces and the kids drink around 4 ounces. It all depends on the day as the produce size varies. Even just a couple ounces for the kids and 5-6 for you it will be amazing and a huge benefit to your body. Cucumbers and pear make the majority of the juice so the sizes of those will be a large part of how much juice it makes. Some days my store only has smaller cucumbers so the juice is less than 28-30 ounces. It all just depends. It is so great though. All of these greens make this a powerful drink. I hope you will give it a try!

  2. The blendtec is great and any veggies we can get in our kids is fantastic. Research has shown the benefits from juicing rather than blending is higher. It is how the enzymes are broken down while juicing and then absorbed into your system quicker that makes the difference. But again the blendtec is a wonderful tool for smoothies and getting our extra nutrients. My family just didn’t have much luck with blending these specific seven ingredients together and it not tasting like a chunky veggie smoothie. I LOVE juicing and the consistency.

  3. Juicing has been a goal of mine for awhile, but I haven’t jumped on quite yet. I’ve been torn between getting a juicer or vitamix. The only thing that makes me resist the juicer is what to do with the solid leftovers, where as the vitamix gives you the extra fiber, but maybe different flavor and thicker? Any thoughts?

    • They each drink a kid size cup which is about 4 ounces. It doesn’t seem like much but it amazing how many good things are in that small of an amount. It’s their whole days serving of fruits and veggies.

  4. Our favorite healthy snack is no bake energy bites. A no bake cookie that’s better for you and my kiddos devour them!
