I’ve been thinking a lot about my workouts lately. I got pretty lazy this summer and started to really miss being a trainer. I loved that job! Not only did I get to help women reach their fitness goals, but they became my friends. It was like having my pals stop by a few times per day to talk and laugh while sweating in my garage over jump lunges. Now that my girls will all be in school, I’m considering teaching again.
Over a year ago I posted THIS on a few of the clients I was training. These tips and tricks remain the same:
- Record your food. Every day. Not to an app on your phone or in a journal. Record and report your food intake to another person. I encourage my clients to text me everything they eat. EVERYTHING. Not only does it allow me to give suggestions for healthier choices but more importantly so they can hold themselves accountable. Find a friend and start texting!
- No carbs past 3pm. That includes fruit. Stick with protein and veggies after 3pm.
- No food past 6pm on weekdays and 7pm on weekends. Doesn’t matter if you go to bed at 10pm or 1am. Not even one almond, or a single grape. Nothing! You will be starving the first week and hold a grudge towards your husband as he eats in bed next to you, but don’t cave! You will see and feel HUGE results from this. Promise.
- Most important tip, DO NOT get on the scale for 3 weeks. It’s natural when you start changing your eating habits to want to see results right away. That’s not reality. If you get on the scale and don’t see a change within a few days, especially when you really want that ice cream, it’s easy to give up. So get on today, record your weight(maybe to the texting friend), stick to the above plan, then weigh yourself again 3 weeks from now.

Lisa,
Awesome tips thank you. I am wondering if you think it’s important to count calories or macros while trying to lose weight?
Thank you for sharing this helpful tips. It’s really appropriated for me. I am waiting your next post
I would also love if you shared some specific food items to eat after 3pm. Maybe more posts like this in the future? Thanks!
Thank you for your response lisa:) We all have our vices, so I have to keep mine out of the house…ummmm oreos:/
Thanks for the tips! When you say no carbs after 3 PM, what all do you eat? I was looking at veggies, and carrots have carbs, green beans have carbs, etc. Thanks!
I would love to see things you eat on a daily basis and what you do to workout. I know you have mentioned you are doing Barre now, so are you not lifting and doing other cardio at all?
I still do Barre3 and keep 10lbs weights in my bathroom so I can do a few shoulder and tricep moves. Right now as I type I’m air popped popcorn with real organic butter and a diet coke. So..my diet could use a little improvement.
Thanks!
I would love to see you post more tips like these including what’s on your shopping list, your menus, what to eat when you’re on the go, and what style of workouts you do.
I am only 9 weeks pregnant. I already need to lose like 15 lbs so I don’t want to gain a bunch of weight being pregnant that I will have to lose later. Should I follow these steps too or should I eat whenever I’m hungry? I often feel very hungry before bed so I’ll have a snack. Thanks!
I’m a believer that you eat what you want when you’re pregnant and work your butt off after. I know for me, I had a really hard time with cravings and ended up gained 45-50 each pregnancy. IF you go that route plan on working REAL hard after to lose it. All of the the tips listed in the post can be followed during a pregnancy. But, if you need to eat after 7, do it.
thx
Can you explain why nit eating after 6 or 7 is important? There are conflicting opinions about this, if it really matters or not. Thanks!
Sure, this is just what I’ve found works best for myself and the clients I’ve trained. My opinion is that going to bed on a empty stomach will speed up your weight loss results. Thanks!
I am going to do this! I tend to eat most of my carbs in the evening which has to stop because at 41 my body started adding weight! Thanks for the great tips!
