5 Easy Ways to Jazz Up Your Smoothies
How’s everyone doing on their fitness goals? Summer is right around the corner and for some of you, spring break looms even closer. Now that I’m done with cleansing, I’m keeping some of the healthy habits I incorporated into my “regular” life; one of those is a daily smoothie. I have a hard time eating before I workout, so a smoothie is the perfect chaser to my morning exercise. My go-to has been – chocolate protein powder (Sunwarrior), half a frozen banana, a GIANT handful of spinach, and almond milk. But this combo, while delicious and easy, can get a little tired at times. So here are five ways to spice up your smoothies (insert jazz hands here!)
1.Try a new flavor of protein powder! I’ve never been a coffee drinker but the mocha flavor of Sunwarrior’s Warrior Blend has got me loving smoothies more than ever. Some people even use cold brew coffee as the liquid in their smoothies to get a caffeine kick. And there was a place in Utah that used to offer Red Bull as an add-in… talk about a smoothie with a pow!
2.Add a nut butter. Adding some almond butter can give you additional protein and a creamy texture. There is an amazing peanut butter powder I get at Costco that gives you the PB flavor without the fat! When I add this to my chocolate smoothie it tastes just like a Reeses egg. Okay not really but honestly WHYYYYY does Easter have the best candy? Tempting me at every store I enter?! I won’t even mention those malted cadbury eggs. Ughhh.
3.Add more cocoa! Unsweetened cocoa only has 15 calories per tablespoon! So I sometimes add a big spoonful to my smoothie to make it more chocoately and decadent. If the bitterness bothers you add a packet of stevia. With the right amount of ice it’s like eating a chocolate milk shake
4.Cocoa nibs!Same as above (low calorie and fat) but turns your smoothie into chocolate chip ice cream! A small amount of cocoa nibs go a long way. And if you want to take it one step further and use a little mint extract; you’ve got a mint chip smoothie! Yummers. Green dye optional!
5.Try a new fruit. If you like a fruit-based smoothie, try mixing up your flavors of fruit. I try and watch the fruit intake on these so I don’t overload on sugar, but Costco has frozen organic cherries that make my fruity smoothies so yummy and give them a lovely pink color. Frozen mango or peach is fun too. Or make a pina colada smoothie with some pineapple, banana, and use coconut water instead of almond milk. Throw a mini umbrella in it and pretend you’re at the beach!
6.Start adding one teaspoon of BRAIN OCTANE OIL to your smoothie. It is amazing stuff. My girlfriends use this and shared how great it is over Christmas during “Favorite Things Night”. Gives you energy, suppresses appetite, healthy fats for your brain and body!
Smoothie Challenge
All skin issues start somewhere, usually internally. Last summer I was so frustrated with my MELASMA OUTBREAK! I have always been so faithful to a skin care routine. I get numerous facials and treatments a month. (it’s the esthetician in me, WINK) So…. to get a skin condition all of a sudden was so puzzling! Little did I know, my body was sending me a message about my digestive system. I wasn’t eating enough food and I was allergic to gluten! The research I’ve done has lead me to one thing! Making sure I get fiber and all my fruits & veggies, (vitamins /minerals) into my body – Every Single Day.
This challenge is to get all of us, (me included) to replace one meal with a vitamin packed smoothie! This is like insrance for your skin. That’s how I view it. If you want skin that glows, drink up!! Add anything and everything to this. You can do smoothie bowls or a regular blended smoothie. I’ve been doing this and feel so good. You can follow along on instagram and instagram stories to see the smoothie of the day!
