Over the weekend I got to thinking about this holiday we celebrate each year called Martin Luther King Day. I have to admit that it’s been more of a free day for us. It made me realize that I should be taking opportunities to teach my kids of important past events in our country and why we recognize them. I love so many quotes by Martin Luther King and he was so inspiring. When my kids wake up in the morning, before we go enjoy the day off I am going to teach them a little bit about this man and also about having big dreams. I thought we could start a new tradition (and this works especially well since it always falls at the beginning of a new year in January) to have the kids each write a dream or something they would like to achieve and strive for. I found these cute little clouds to document them. Super simple and easy.
I’m hoping that this day will mean more to our family now. My favorite quote by MLK and one I hope to teach my kids is:
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
~Martin Luther King, Jr.

Summer –
I LOVE this idea. so simple, but a great lesson for not only our kids, but us adults as well. Thanks for sharing. On a side note – I bought Taylor the “Giving Book” that you reviewed awhile ago – so darling!! Can’t wait for the rest in the series to come out.
