If you haven’t heard of oh so Delicioso now is the time! These soCal sisters are all about making food fun, delicious and colorful! Their site is beautifully done, easy to follow, and makes us want to get in the kitchen and start cooking. My mom gave my popsicle molds two years ago and I’ve never used them. These smoothie pops seem like the perfect reason to break open the box and make my girls a healthy treat for summer!
Summer is a glorious time of the year right?! Swimming, splash pads, the sound of kids and bike bells cruising around the neighborhood, the smell of grass.sigh. I love it. Especially when you only get a few sunny months of the year you realllly learn to appreciate summer. Right now, We live in SoCal and it’s pretty much summer year round, which we love, but we’re also pretty nostalgic for the other seasons…
Back to task-I have kids- and kids need to stay hydrated and nourished while they are running those little bodies haggard in this hot summer sun. Seriously, as soon as they start playing, they start sweating, then they start begging me for a popsicle. Kids and popsicles are like boys and balls or girls in pigtails. Can’t have one without the other! And we all like to come up with more nutritious ideas for our sweet babes, right? sneak in the veggies instead of processed sugar treats? Aubrey, my sis and partner, came up with some tasty smoothie pops recipes. Since smoothies & blenders are all the rage right now, why not pour all those whole fruits and veggies into a frozen lickable treat? genius 🙂 I’m all about sneaking spinach and kale into smoothies, my son has a hard enough time eating veggies- so I try to do it as much as possible with out the fight. He happens to LOVE green smoothies, so we was all about a green popsicle.
I call this one a Kiwi Lime Pop, but really- its like a Kiwi Avocado Spinach Lime Pop. eh? eh? sneaky.Juice of 1Lime {because lime is like my favorite}2 Kiwi, peeled {for sweetness and fiber}1/2 Avocado {for creaminess, and vitamin E, folate and all sorts of other health benefits}1/4 cup Spinach for protein, and iron and well you know spinach will turn you into Popeye- do I really need to explain?1/2+ cup Almond milk {to substitute for a sugary juice, but you can use apple or orange juice if thats what you have on hand}1tsp honey, optional. {natural sweetener.}Blend until creamy smooth. pour into popsicle molds!
