real mom: kelli murray

I met Kelli Murray (Larson) at an event we both attended at a few weeks back. I recognized her right away and went up to introduce myself. She was so sweet and kind. She also has some of the best platinum blonde hair I’ve ever seen!
Kelli has an incredible sense of style. Not only in fashion but also with the custom art she creates. (you can see more HERE)
She is a true talent. She is cool. She is real. She is a mom.
Meet our friend Kelli Murray..

Tell us a little about your background?

I was born in Chicago but the California coast is where I’ve grown up and the only place I call home.  I graduated from FIDM with a degree in product development and merchandising, and for 6 years, I worked as the head designer for a clothing company in San Diego.  When I wasn’t designing, I was honing my skills as an artist and illustrator…which I soon realized to be my true calling.  Since becoming a momma in 2011, I have ventured into the role of a full time freelancer.  I love the flexibility it provides and that I am able to work from home and be with my daughter.  I enjoy working with clients in bringing their ideas to life.  Whether it be a new identity for their business, a custom designed invitation or a personal illustration.

Husband:
Sam Larson. Owner of Lone Flag, a curated brick and mortar boutique in Del Mar. It’s really a mash-up of mens heritage brand feel with contemporary lines including lifestyle and home goods. At it’s core, Lone Flag represents brands that have purpose and story in their goods. This month, he launched the first line of Lone Flag branded outerwear available in store only and then in Fall, he’ll be launching a new collection in other partner stores as well. You’ll most likely find him in the shop, surfing at the beach, working on his motorcycle in our garage, or being the best dad ever to our daughter Rylee.

How would you describe your personal style?
A little bohemian, a little classic, a little feminine. My style is kind of a mash up and hard to define. As a mom, I like to balance comfort with style.

You look amazing! How do you stay fit?
I don’t have much of a workout routine other than staying active with a rambunctious 2 year old….but I always try to make healthy food choices and try, if I can, to eat 5 small meals a day.

What is your #1 beauty item?
Stila waterproof liquid eyeliner

Favorite healthy snack:
bell peppers and hummus

Guilty pleasure:
chocolate anything. What lesson did you learn from your mom?
Don’t take yourself too seriously. Enjoy life and be kind.

How do you spend time alone?
Painting / taking a bath / shopping (one thing I seriously took for granted pre-baby)

How you balance life:
I’m not sure I have that down yet. I think life is less about balance and more about choices. There is always more to be done and not enough time to do it. So I do my best in prioritizing my responsibilities…..some days are better than others. No matter how many things I am juggling, at the end of the day, family is what’s most important.

Favorite Quote:
I’m reading a book right now called “one thousand gifts” by Ann Voskamp and there is a quote that stuck with me (in reference to our constant state of “hurry”) :
“Life is not an emergency. Life is brief and it is fleeting but it is not an emergency.”
I want to learn to slow down, to taste life and give thanks.

xxo

  1. Let’s not forget the prolific Josephina. Though I believe that aside from Kim there are no female bloggers in the English language blogosphere who consistently focus on Russian politics. Well, I consistently focus on Russian politics, but very infrequently bother to write down my thoughts. There are journalists and academics (Applebaum, Freeland, Latynina, Shevtsova…) who do. And there are bloggers who write a bit about everything (Neeka, Josephina, Svet, Exsr3aespe&#82t0;) and sometimes occasionally on politics. I think it says less about Mr. Karlin’s or the Kremlin’s misogyny than the traditional dynamics of the blogosphere.
